Emily was walking down the street when she was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless woman who asked her for a couple of dollars for dinner.
艾密莉走在街上，有一位外表很髒、很不好看的老婆婆走向她，還向她要錢吃晚餐。
Emily took out her wallet, got out ten dollars and asked, "If I give you this money, will you buy wine with it instead of dinner?"
艾密莉拿出她的皮夾，拿出10元並且問了這位老婆婆：你拿到錢之後會去吃飯，不會去買酒吧?
"No, I had to stop drinking years ago", the homeless woman told me.
不，我好幾年前就戒酒了。無家可歸的老婆婆告訴艾密莉
"Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food?" Emily asked.
艾密莉又問：你不會拿這些錢去shopping，而不買食物吧?
"No, I don't waste time shopping," the homeless woman said. "I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive."
不，我不會浪費時間在shopping，我會把我所有的時間花在如何活著。無家可歸的老婆婆說。
"Will you spend this on a beauty salon instead of food?" Emily asked.
艾密莉又問：你不會拿這些錢去作沙龍美髮，而不買食物吧?
"Are you NUTS!" replied the homeless woman. "I haven't had my hair done in 20 years!"
無家可歸的老婆婆回答：你瘋啦!我20年沒整理過頭髮啦!
"Well," Emily said, "I'm not going to give you the money. Instead, I'm going to take you out for dinner with my husband and me tonight."
艾密莉於是說了........我打算不給你錢了，但是我要帶你回家和我的先生一起共進晚餐。
The homeless woman was shocked. "Won't your husband be furious with you for doing that? I know I'm dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting."
無家可歸的老婆婆受寵若驚的問：你先生一定會驚訝你為什麼要這麼做!我知道我外表髒，且身上有怪味。
Emily said, "That's okay. It's important for him to see what a woman looks like after she has given up shopping, hair appointments, and wine."
艾密莉回答說：沒有關係。我就是要跟他說，女人假如不shopping、不作沙龍、不喝酒會變成什麼樣子。
